Steve Webster - Research and Consultancy

Background

Dr Steve Webster is an independent researcher and consultant, with substantial experience gained particularly within the voluntary and community sector (VCS). Steve also works with a number of associate consultants and, on some projects, with academic partners. Steve's consultancy work includes life coaching services for both individuals and organisations.

In tandem with his consultancy  and life coaching work, Steve works (on a part-time basis) as East Midlands Regional ICT Champion for the third sector (see www.item3.org.uk for further information). This is one example of Steve's long involvement with the third sector - with over 20 years experience of working with voluntary and community organisations (VCOs). He has extensive experience of both working for VCOs and undertaking research/consultancy projects for the sector - at local, regional and national levels.

Steve gained his PhD from the University of Bradford in 1997. His doctoral research focussed on the use of information technology by NGOs in Britain concerned with peace and security.

Associate consultant - Teresa Tinklin

Steve works with a number of associate consultants and academic partners - and particularly with Teresa Tinklin:

Teresa Tinklin MSc is an independent researcher with 16 years experience of social research gained in the fields of education and the voluntary and community sector. She is experienced in the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and has particular expertise in the analysis of large and small datasets. She has managed large and small research projects and written numerous articles, reports and publications including a book on provision for disabled students in higher education (with co-authors Professor Sheila Riddell and Alastair Wilson). She has particular knowledge of issues of inequality, relating to gender, social class and disability, as well as a particular understanding of issues of mental health. Her recent projects in education include studies of student mental health in higher education in Scotland; a large-scale analysis of qualifications datasets for the Scottish Qualifications Authority, assessing progress and pass rates in new national qualifications; and an investigation of how multiple policy innovations in higher education in Scotland and England have impacted on the day to day experiences of disabled students. Teresa worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Educational Sociology at the University of Edinburgh before becoming an independent researcher in 2004. In addition, more recently she has also trained to teach Pilates and to do reflexology. See her associated websites www.reflexology-health.co.uk and www.bodyhealthpilates.co.uk for more information. She has a first class honours degree in Psychology from Lancaster University, an MSc in Knowledge-Based Systems and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from Heriot-Watt University.
